Linear Stereo vs. Hi-Fi Stereo
Recording Method: Linear stereo splits the original mono audio track into left and right channels using fixed, stationary tape heads. Hi-Fi stereo uses the spinning video drum heads to record the audio much deeper into the tape's magnetic layer.
Audio Quality: Linear stereo is typically limited in frequency response and prone to background tape hiss. Hi-Fi stereo delivers a much broader frequency response (20 Hz - 20 kHz), a better signal-to-noise ratio, and minimal distortion.
